GoDaddy is somewhat famous on the internet today for being one of the largest and well known web hosting and domain name registrars. They were founded in 1997 and include services such as shared hosting, dedicated servers, cloud hosting, and VPS hosting solutions. No matter what your budget is, GoDaddy has the perfect web hosting solution for you!
Each shared hosting package from GoDaddy starts at $2.99 a month and includes unlimited data transfer, 100 email accounts, 100 gigs of disk space, and 10 mySQL databases. Each hosting package also includes scripts to install forums and blogs with only one click! They have been around for a long time and have demonstrated almost 100% up time and the best reliability. GoDaddy is so well trusted that it hosts millions of customers on over thirty five thousand web servers. There is no question that they are one of the best in the web hosting industry.
Rating: 93 out of 100
GoDaddy has been in the business for a long time now and has proven to have a great reliability and is easy to use. However, we gave it a 93 out of 100 because even though they have been doing well, they are also the web host to receive the most complains about their web hosting over the entire market. This does not mean anything when it comes to registering a domain with GoDaddy as they are one of the best.
Once again, we used Pingdom to check the reliability of GoDaddy web hosting. From our tests we have found that they have a 99.97% up time. Their servers are fast enough that you will not complain with any of their hosting speeds. GoDaddy also provides a free daily backup for each account you have with them. This has been very useful for many GoDaddy reviewers around then net.
This is one of the let downs of GoDaddy web hosting. They do not provide any sort of money back guarantee to anyone who purchases a web hosting solution from them. This is something we would like to see implemented but until then, we are at a loss of words here.
Ease of Use
GoDaddy makes use of a control panel that is very custom. This solution for a control panel is actually very easy to use and all options are accessible and very well described so you can navigate around successfully.
In the middle part of the custom control panel is where you can find the different services that your GoDaddy panel has to offer. These include domains, hosting, email, and FTP. It is also pretty simple to add on features as you need them which will cost extra. If you do not want to upgrade, you will always be prompted so you can choose not to spend extra money if your budget will not allow that,
If you select a hosting product and then click on launch, you will switched over to the hosting control panel which is a bit different.
Each fucntion that you may need is well laid out and works fine. There are not any issues to speak of here.
GoDaddy web hosting comes with some add on apps that will install with a single click of the moust button. These applicatioins are sorted into different groups so you can find exactly what you need. When you select what needs to be installed, it will actually install in the background without bothering you.
WordPress was easily installed on the server we tested it on in a matter of minutes.
If instead you want to get your website launched right away in a more simplistic form, GoDaddy gives you the option to use a web builder that is point and click for $4.99 a month. We recommend you do not go this route as installing WordPress is free and you can craft a much better website if you take the time to learn what you are doing.
GoDaddy has a simple interface that is custom. It is easy to use, efficient and offers many great ad-ons. We wish there was not so many prompts to upgrade your account, which is the only down side.
GoDaddy offers support through the phone 24/7 or through an online ticket system. They do not have a live chat which is something that customers will miss if they are moving from another hosting solution. There are links to support all over the custom control panel as well as their website. If you want to get some feedback from their customer support, it is only a click away from your fingertips.
It took about a minute for phone calls to be answered and over an hour for a support ticket to be answered. This is about average for the amount of customers that GoDaddy services every day.
For further support, GoDaddy offers a forum and a FAQ that can be seen directly on their website.
Overall the support is middle of the road. They are missing a live chat, and their response times are okay at best. This is really a let down.
For $2.99 a month, you are not getting very much. You only have access to 10 GB of hosting space, 10 MySQL databases, and 100 emails. Other web hosts offer much more for a little higher price.
You get nothing but the very bare minimum for the price you are going to be paying. You do not have access to such things such as Perl or Ruby on Rails. This is also a disappointment.
Other GoDaddy reviews have mentioned that there have been many billing errors as well as them failing to stop billing once you cancel your account. If you decide to go with GoDaddy make sure you do your due diligence and keep an eye on your bill.
The overall picture of GoDaddy is mediocre. They are reliable as a web host and allow you to scale up your site as it continues to grow. For the price however, you are getting an okay deal. If you want to go with a better host, pay a little bit more and other options will open up.
